How I create your window art
Before the painting begins
You tell me about your business, the space, and what you’re trying to achieve so that I can give you an estimate and concept.
If you decide to go ahead, I’ll create a mock-up design so you can see how it will look in your windows before the big day.
Mural Day: Time to Get Painting
I’ll spend the day on site painting the design into your windows – a process that tends to draw some interest from passers-by!
I’ll capture content as I work, and encourage you to do the same!
After the day: share the story
Don’t miss the opportunity to tell the story of your window art on your socials. Customers love to see the behind the scenes, and it allows you to reach even more people.
Mini Case Study
Making Museums More Visible
The Society’s museum in Hammersmith is slightly tucked away in a Georgian coach house by the river. It’s a gorgeous setting, but can be tricky to spot from the street. I was commissioned to paint a window mural across the entrance doors to draw the attention of passers-by.
Taking inspiration from Morris’ iconic body of work, I designed a floral pattern that played out across the window panes, with the society’s logo featured in one of the panels. The mural was designed to be striking from the street, with more intricate details to be enjoyed up close.
“Working with Danielle was a pleasure from start to finish. She understood our brief from the outset and created a beautiful William Morris–inspired design for our museum’s front windows. The visitor entrance is now far more inviting, and we regularly see visitors stopping by to take a closer look.”
– Gabriella Esser, William Morris Society

Celebrating the Lunar New Year in style!
Helping one of Chinatown’s most iconic restaurants (Golden Phoenix Restaurant) ring in the Lunar New Year in style. I was commissioned to paint a large scale window mural, featuring the restaurant’s namesake phoenix, celebratory fireworks, and a special new year message in Chinese Calligraphy.
The mural had personal significance for the client, who had recently taken the reins of the family business. Before I started designing, we spent time discussing ideas and collaborating on a moodboard to set the direction for the project. We wanted this to stand out from the usual window vinyls and feel really special, all while honouring the traditions of the Lunar New Year.
As with all my window art projects, I created a digital mock-up for the client to review, and then refined this based on their feedback. Given the scale, and the level of detail in the design, I painted the mural over two days, during which time so many passers-by stopped to watch and take photos.
Window Art FAQs
Hand-painted window art can be a cost effective way to catch the attention of passers-by and encourage them to take a closer look. I’ve put together a list of the questions I’m asked most.
-
I use a mix of emulsion, acrylic, and paint markers to create my window designs. All my materials are water-based, so they’re non-toxic, gentle on your windows and can be removed easily when the time comes. See below for tips on how to remove your window art.
-
Window art can last a surprisingly long time! Providing no one tries to rub it, or accidentally tries to clean it, you can expect your window to stay fresh for at least two months. That said, I’ve had clients who kept their window art for over a year.
-
When it’s time to say goodbye to your lovely window mural, you will need the following items:
Window cleaner spray or warm soapy water.
A tile / window scraper with a clean, new blade.
A cloth / kitchen roll.
Simply spray the painting with window spray (or soak with hot soapy water) and give it a few minutes to soak in. The paint should peel away fairly easily using the blade. Once you have removed most of the paint, give the windows a clean with spray and cloth to get rid of any last stubborn bits. You can view more detailed window art removal instructions here.
-
I paint most of my designs onto the inside of the window. It means I can paint your mural whatever the weather. Sometimes though, it makes sense to paint the design on the outside of the window. This could be because it’s easier to access, or we want to achieve a certain look. I’ll always consult with you to work out the best option.
-
Absolutely! Once we’ve agreed on a concept and date, I will send a mock-up design and you’ll have the opportunity to give feedback. This will make sure we’re on the same page, and it also helps me work more efficiently on installation day.
-
My window art is bespoke, so I work with you to ensure the design reflects your brand’s tone, messaging and visual execution. Check out my window art portfolio to see examples of how I’ve brought brands to life through window art - I’ve even recreated book covers in shop windows, matching their typeface!
-
People often ask me about this! Most elements of the mural are drawn freehand. For trickier bits, like lettering, I will prepare a template to stick on the other side of the window and then trace the lettering backwards. If you’re interested to know more about my process, I often share process videos on my Instagram.
-
The costing will vary depending on the size of the window and the complexity of the design, and I will give you a customised quote once I have more information on your space and what you’re looking to achieve. My costs cover design, installation and materials.

I’m based in Brighton, but I regularly travel to London, and across the southeast and have installed window murals across Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Kent!
